My name is Agnes, and I’m the founder and designer of Agnes Nordenholz.
Born and raised in Tübingen, Germany, I headed to Vienna to become a trained dressmaker and to study fashion design at the University of applied arts in Vienna under Marc Bohan, Helmut Lang and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.
After 14 years as co-founder and designer of the label Hartmann Nordenholz, I moved to Berlin to go back to the roots and continue my work under the name Agnes Nordenholz. Nordenholz was my grandmother’s maiden name. One of my great-grandfathers was born in Berlin. He worked as a merchant in the wool trade for one of Europe’s largest wool companies. Another was a leather tanner and later became a trader in leather goods. My mother and grandmother often talked about them, and I loved imagining their lives and their work. Perhaps it is no coincidence that wool, leather and sheepskin became the materials I feel closest to. The sheep has always been at the centre of my attention. For centuries, it has provided us with some of the most natural, durable and useful materials for clothing — materials that can age, be repaired and remain in use for a very long time.
Vision
Agnes Nordenholz is a slow luxury label founded in Berlin in 2015. German-born designer Agnes Schorer is the creative mind behind the brand. The aim is to create objects with a soul — pieces that resist the fast-moving nature of our time. Agnes has chosen craftsmanship, natural materials and European production as the basis of her work. Natural materials are not an addition to the design process, but part of its foundation. Agnes Nordenholz celebrates the slowness of making: the time it takes to develop an idea, to find the right material, to refine a proportion or construction, and to create something that keeps its value and relevance. There are no seasonal collections. Pieces remain, are revisited, redesigned and developed over time. What is good, stays.
